Our Curriculum Offer
At Ryedale School, we believe that knowledge transforms the way we see the world.
It is both our duty and privilege to guide students through the very best that has ever been thought, said, made, played, and discovered.
Our curriculum is built on the foundation of the National Curriculum and enriched by the expertise of our middle leaders—subject specialists who have carefully selected content that inspires, challenges, and empowers.
Our taught curriculum identifies invaluable knowledge, skills, and big ideas across every subject. Students don’t simply encounter these concepts—they learn them
deeply and apply them regularly. Carefully planned schemes of learning ensure that students develop both substantive knowledge (core facts and concepts) and disciplinary knowledge (how knowledge is constructed and evaluated), equipping them to succeed in their studies and beyond.
We also offer a vibrant programme of trips, visits, clubs, ensembles, and extra-curricular activities designed to excite and motivate. These experiences extend
learning beyond the classroom and help students discover new passions and talents.
Our curriculum is shaped by our whole-school vision and values, which place equal emphasis on academic success and personal development. We aim to nurture young people who are kind, honest, curious, and hard working. During their time at Ryedale School, students will love learning. They will become independent thinkers—able to plan, monitor, and evaluate their progress—and will be open to feedback and support. They will treat others with respect and integrity, and engage positively with the world around them.
We recognise that every learner is unique. That’s why we offer a flexible curriculum where appropriate, tailored to meet individual academic, emotional, physical, or health-related needs. This personalised approach is balanced with a broad subject offer, ensuring students are well-prepared for the next stage of their education or career.
When our students leave Ryedale School, they will be confident, compassionate members of the wider community. They will appreciate diversity, value tolerance, and understand the opportunities available to them—whether in higher education, further training, or fulfilling employment. They will know how to stay healthy and safe, and where to seek support when needed.
