Attendance

Regular attendance is essential to ensure students can make the most of their learning and achieve their full potential at Ryedale School.

On this page, you will find important information about our attendance expectations, procedures, and guidance for parents and carers. Please take a moment to read the document below to understand how we can work together to support your child’s attendance and success.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE FORM

There is no entitlement in law to time off school during term time. Young people who are absent from school fall behind in their learning. They miss out on school events. Many find it difficult to catch up. In addition, school staff have to divert their attention away from other young people in order to support those that have fallen behind due to holiday-related absences.

Due to this reason, any request for leave of absence due to holidays in term time will not be authorised. Holidays during term time, despite employment factors, are not a necessity and will not be deemed as exceptional.

It is expected that this request form be submitted to the school at least 4 weeks in advance of the proposed absence. Even if the timescale is not possible, this form should still be completed.
No parent/ carer can demand a leave of absence as a right and the decision of the Headteacher is final. A student's education will be the main priority.

The school has the right to apply to the local authority to serve a Penalty Notice to parents/ carers who insist on taking their children out of school without authorisation.
